A service pilot can look successful because every participant knows the product team and receives immediate help. That result may reveal little about ordinary use. For ALFA utility, a useful trial should examine how the intended customer navigates the offer, payment and delivery with realistic information and support, while keeping the trial's scope and status clear.
Select for relevant variation
Participants should reflect meaningful differences in the intended audience, such as device use, purchasing authority or familiarity with wallets. The goal is not maximum diversity for its own sake. It is to expose the assumptions that could prevent a real customer from completing the service. A narrow but representative group can reveal more than a larger group of insiders.
Include the provider workload
The trial should observe booking confirmation, attendance and reconciliation, not only the customer's screen. Staff may need to translate digital references into an existing operating process. If the pilot depends on manual intervention, that work should be recorded. Otherwise the apparent ease of the customer experience can conceal an unsustainable burden on the provider behind the scenes.
Avoid coaching away the evidence
Helping a confused participant can be appropriate, but the intervention should remain visible in the results. A successful completion after several private explanations is different from an independently completed journey. Recording those moments allows the team to improve the interface and documentation instead of interpreting assisted success as proof that the service is already straightforward for new users.
Publish a bounded conclusion
The pilot's value lies in the specific uncertainties it resolves. ALFA can assess readiness through completed orders, identified problems and remedial work without implying that a limited trial proves broad availability. A credible conclusion explains what was exercised and what changed as a result, preserving the difference between learning from a small cohort and demonstrating sustained operating performance.
