An airport introducing charging infrastructure may expect several operators to use it. Their needs can coincide, particularly around training schedules or planned departures. The infrastructure's usefulness therefore depends on more than installed capacity. A clear shared-use arrangement helps potential customers understand access, booking and the consequences when one user's activity affects another's planned service.
Understand the customer pattern
The operator should gather realistic information about intended use without assuming every aircraft or equipment type has the same requirements. Qualified technical assessment remains essential. The commercial analysis can then examine when users need access and how much flexibility exists, creating a better basis for sizing and scheduling than a simple count of interested organisations.
Define allocation rules
A shared facility needs a transparent way to manage competing requests. The policy should address ordinary bookings and disruption, with responsibilities clear to users before they rely on the service. An informal arrangement based on personal relationships may work initially but become difficult to defend as demand grows or new customers join the airport community.
Make the service offer precise
Customers need to understand what they are buying, including availability, support and any relevant limitations. Infrastructure ownership does not by itself guarantee a particular operating outcome for every user. Clear terms allow operators to assess how the service fits their own plans and what alternatives they need when their requirements cannot be met.
Expand from observed use
Early operating information can help the airport judge where additional investment is justified. Congestion may reflect scheduling rather than insufficient hardware, while low use may reveal a mismatch in the offer. A shared-use policy creates the evidence needed to distinguish these possibilities and develop an infrastructure business around actual customer behaviour instead of interest expressed before installation.
