Rajeev Khandelwal's structured-finance landscape includes obligations that do not initially look like expenditure. A project may require a performance guarantee or similar support, depending on its terms. Arranging that instrument can involve fees, collateral or banking capacity, making it part of the funding discussion even when no immediate claim or operating loss has occurred.

Understand the underlying promise

The institution should identify the obligation being supported, the beneficiary and the agreed duration. Suitable advisers and providers must address the specific terms. From a management perspective, the key is to connect the instrument with the actual project commitment, rather than treat it as a standard document whose implications can be considered after the contract is signed.

Plan for the capacity it uses

A guarantee may affect the resources available for other banking or financing needs. The business should ask its provider how the arrangement interacts with existing facilities and what security or cash support is required. This avoids discovering that an apparently funded project competes with the same capacity needed for ordinary trading activity or another essential commitment.

Track the end of the obligation

Completion of physical work may not automatically release the instrument. The agreed expiry, return or cancellation process needs an owner and supporting evidence. Keeping the record current can free capacity at the appropriate time, while neglected instruments may continue consuming attention or resources after their commercial purpose should have ended under the arrangement.

Compare contracts on complete funding needs

Two assignments with similar margins may impose very different support requirements. Including those requirements in the commercial review helps management compare opportunities more fairly. The stronger financing conversation follows every material commitment, including those that appear outside the immediate cash budget but still shape the enterprise's ability to undertake and sustain its chosen work.
