An account can stop accepting new spending before all of its obligations are settled. Customers may still have a remaining balance, pending purchase or expected refund. The eventual closure terms should describe how each position is handled rather than reduce the exit journey to a single cancellation instruction.

Establish the closing position

The account record should distinguish available balance, pending amounts, completed charges and unresolved adjustments. Any token holdings outside the card account should remain separately identified. The programme must explain which provider holds each position and which terms govern it.

A card account balance should not be treated automatically as an ALFA token redemption claim. Conversely, a token transfer awaiting conversion should not disappear from the customer's view because the spending account is closing. The operating file needs a common reference that allows the relevant providers to reconcile the customer's complete journey before describing the relationship as fully settled.

Follow a delayed refund

Imagine a hypothetical customer requesting closure while a merchant refund is still expected. The programme should state how the refund can be received and made available after new spending stops. The customer needs a reliable contact route and any required instructions, with conditions explained in advance. The provider should not promise a universal immediate payout if its process depends on unresolved transactions or verification. At the same time, an open-ended pending label should not substitute for an accountable case owner. The terms and support workflow need a way to identify the remaining condition and review cases that take longer than expected.

Explain the permitted exit route

A residual balance may have a supported withdrawal, transfer or other treatment under the final programme. That route needs its own currency, charges, eligibility and timing information. The interface should disclose the net result before the customer accepts an action.

ALFA's current materials establish no guaranteed conversion back into a fixed token quantity or unrestricted redemption facility. Any future claim of that kind would require specific documentation. The closure process should also address a balance too small for an ordinary transaction without allowing an unexplained fee or minimum to become visible only at the final step.

Retain the records and remove access carefully

Customers should be able to obtain relevant statements and closure confirmation through the approved process. Provider access and active credentials need controlled handling, while support retains appropriate information to resolve later cases. The final record should identify what is closed and what, if anything, remains outstanding. An orderly exit gives the programme evidence that it has completed its obligations and gives the customer a dependable account of their position. Designing that journey before launch would make ALFA Debit's convenience more durable, including for users who eventually decide the service no longer suits their needs.
